About Us
Shared Space Swansea CIC is a community interest company dedicated to providing trauma-informed support across South Wales.
Our Mission
We believe that everyone — regardless of their background, history, or circumstances — deserves access to compassionate, high-quality mental health support.
Our mission is to reduce the long-term impact of trauma on individuals and communities by providing accessible, evidence-based counselling and education that empowers people to heal, grow, and thrive.
As a Community Interest Company, every penny we generate is reinvested into our services and the communities we serve.
Our Story
Shared Space Swansea was founded with a simple but powerful belief: that trauma-informed support should be available to those who need it most — not just those who can afford it.
We are a team of experienced counsellors with specialist knowledge across trauma, suicide prevention, self-harm, addiction, bereavement, anxiety, and depression. That breadth of experience means we can meet people where they are — whatever they are carrying.
We saw a gap in provision for young people, care leavers, and those leaving the criminal justice system — people whose experiences of trauma were often at the root of the challenges they faced, yet who were falling through the cracks of existing services.
We set out to change that. Working across South Wales, we bring specialist counselling and psychoeducation directly to the communities and organisations that need it.
Our Values
Trauma-Informed
We understand that difficult behaviour and mental health challenges are often a response to trauma, not a reflection of character. Everything we do is grounded in this understanding.
Reducing Harm
We are committed to reducing the risk of reoffending, the exploitation of young people, and addiction — by working through the underlying trauma that feeds these patterns, rather than simply managing the symptoms.
Non-Judgemental
We offer a genuinely safe space — free from judgement, stigma, or assumption. Everyone who comes to us is met with warmth and respect, regardless of their history.
Person-Centred
We follow the lead of the people we support. Progress is defined by them, at their pace, in a way that works for their life.
Community-Rooted
As a CIC, we are embedded in the communities we serve. We work in partnership with local organisations, schools, and statutory services to extend our reach.
Accessible
We are committed to removing barriers to support — whether financial, geographical, or cultural — so that the people who need us most can reach us.
What is a Community Interest Company?
A Community Interest Company (CIC) is a special type of limited company designed for social enterprises that want to use their profits and assets for the public good.
As a CIC, Shared Space Swansea is legally required to demonstrate that our work benefits the community. Any surplus we generate is reinvested into our services — not distributed to shareholders.
This structure means you can trust that our work is always driven by our mission, not by profit.
